THE LIZARD

It is interesting to know that the Lizard used to be known properly as Predannack. The Lizard itself is a huge lump of the Earth's European continental shelf and upper mantle, that through geological upheaval has found its
way to the surface and slammed into the South West Corner of England or thereabouts about 300 million years ago. (err... late devonian for the techies).
It probably happened around the time Africa slammed into Europe and formed the Alps and is probably a big splinter that was forced up through the European continental shelf as this happened.
Part of Africa in Cornwall now there's a thought! The area here is a geologists paradise and we have let the bungalow to geologists doing field trips in the past...
hence the lumps of stone still found in the garden. They never leave anything valuable though. The local lizard rock known as Serpantine was much loved by Prince Albert & Queen Victoria during the 19th Century.
It has various hues of colour from Black through to the deepest Red. And Gifts can be bought or commissioned on the lizard point (when they are open in season) by one of the local shops or crafts folk who work this hard but lovely material.
