Praa Sands  is a lovely coastal sea side village. It also has one of the premier surfing beaches on the southern Cornish Riviera.

Rinsey on lovely sunny afternoon

The sandy beach

Braving the famous Praa Sands waves

The beach here is one of the most lovely in Cornwall. Soft sand and a gentle camber to the beach allow fine swimming and snorkelling off the rocks during the summer and great surfing states at different beach states and states of tide throughout the year. The beach faces South America so is subject to Atlantic mostly stable wave form and states.

The lifeguard patrol is there mainly during the summer 1st April to 31st October. Not during the winter. Actual patrol Dates may vary as the guards are self funding through the council.

When there is surf it caters for all* levels.

The link below links to the summer operated surf cams sponsored during the summer months only.

However.....Visitors must always be aware that the sea is fine most of the time but you must always treat it with the respect it deserves. Local knowledge is important so ask the lifeguards when in doubt. It can get very rough and not suitable for the inexperienced (see top above left). When sea states are beyond your capabilities on the South side go over and look at the north coast near Porthowan, Portreath or Church cove.  Its what we all do.

The eastern End of the Beach at Praa sands at High tide. When the Tide is out you can walk across the mixed rocks and beaches for another 1/2 mile.

At the other end of the beach in the village are the local amenities, pub, fish and chip shop and the famous R&J stores where you can buy practically everything else.
